Volunteering Work

Department of Conservation
On the Department of Conservation (DOC) website you can find information about how you can get involved in conservation.  As a volunteer you will help with many different conservation tasks such as bird counts, habitat restoration, hut maintenance, historic building restoration, weed control, whale strandings etc. It’s practical work, mostly outdoors, that gives you the opportunity to meet new people, to learn new skills and to contribute to conservation in New Zealand.

Volunteering New Zealand
Volunteering New Zealand is a national association to represent, promote and support volunteering. The website offers a wide range of volunteer jobs all over New Zealand and in a wide range of industries and areas of work.

Pupu Rangi Nature Sanctuary - Native Forest Conservation
Pupu Rangi Nature Sanctuary welcomes volunteers who want to help protect the native New Zealand forest, learn about nature, live off the grid for a little while and make a positive difference. The sanctuary is located on the Kauri Coast, a beautiful area of New Zealand a few hours north of Auckland. You will be able to access amazing forests closed to the public, you may see kiwi in the wild, and you'll bond with locals and other volunteers in an area, off the beaten track.
