Byron Bay

Byron Bay is famous as the place to go to 'cheer up, slow down and chill out'. An artsy town with a hippy vibe, it's a favourite stop for many backpackers and grows in popularity year on year. Aside from delicious, trendy places to eat and drink, there is a lot to do here - skydive, surf, SCUBA dive or kayak with dolphins to name a few. During the right time of year, keep an eye out for migrating whales, or just enjoy a sunrise if you can drag yourself out of bed early enough. If the beach is not your thing, the hinterland offers a different kind of nature spectacle - Minyon Falls, the Rail Trail and Nimbin, an even more hippy town, are all worth checking out.

Ask anyone for their must-see recommendations along the East Coast and we'd be surprised if they didn't mention Byron Bay!

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Byron Bay Busker

Walk to Cape Byron Lighthouse
For a budget friendly activity, walk to the iconic Cape Byron lighthouse - perched on Australia's most easterly point. Even better, wake up early enough for sunrise and be one of the first in the world to watch the sun come up over panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Byron Bay.

Kayak with dolphins
Feel the exhilaration as you paddle with the dolphins and turtles whilst learning about local history, aboriginal history and wildlife.

Take a day trip to Nimbin
The Grasshoppers Nimbin Tour is highly recommended. Experience the weird and wonderful characters and buildings of Nimbin before visiting the Nightcap National Park where you can take in the breathtaking views over Minyon Falls.

Skydiving
Fall out of a plane at 15,000ft and freefall for over 60 seconds before floating over Byron Bay, soaking up spectacular beach and hinterland views all the way up to Brisbane and beyond! This is one of the best places to skydive in the country.

Enjoy the free music
Byron is a hotspot for local buskers as musical entertainment on the streets here is actively encouraged. One of the more unique things you can do is 'street-hop' and soak up the atmosphere that these vibrant entertainers bring to Byron Bay.
