Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, a young, cosmopolitan city that sits astride the Brisbane River. With its modern, chic, shopping and al fresco cafés, bars and restaurants, it's also a city of culture, home to two galleries in one: QAGOMA - the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art. The river bends through this vibrant city, offering plenty to see and do, with a café and bar around every corner.
We make the short trip via Surfer's Paradise, just 75km south of Brisbane CBD, with an afternoon, evening and part of the next morning to get to know the vibrant city of Brisbane and its laid back inhabitants.
Population: 2,472,000

Stroll through Brisbane City Botanic GardensHow do you cool off and relax at the end of the day in a warm city? Craft beer, anyone? We've picked out a couple of craft beer bars close to the Brisbane City YHA where we stay. Try Brewski Bar with a changing range of craft beer, or Saccharomyces Beer Café in South Brisbane, with craft beer and eat-in or take-away burgers and sandwiches. If you were wondering, saccharomyces is brewer's yeast.
