General Information

TIME DIFFERENCE

All of Cambodia is in the same time zone seven hours ahead of Greenwich meantime (GMT+7). There is no daylight savings, so you don’t have to worry about changing your clocks around. Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam are all in the same time zone.

CLIMATE

Cambodia is like the rest of Southeast Asia and experiences a hot and humid tropical climate with two distinct seasons, wet and dry. The dry season is usually October through April and the wet (rainy) season is from May through to September.  Temperatures are standard throughout the country ranging from the mid 20C to the high 30C year-round.

CURRENCY

USD is used everywhere, but be sure you only carry crisp, clean, new notes as no one will accept old, dirty or torn notes.  It is a good idea to have one, ten and twenty-dollar notes as the smaller vendors don’t have change for larger denominations.

The official currency in Cambodia is Riel but it is usually only used for small change.  So, if you make a purchase for say 9.50USD and give the vendor 10USD you will probably get 2,000 Riel back in change.  1USD = 4,000Riel.

SHOPPING

Cambodia has a mix of markets, shopping centres and convenience stores. You can usually pay in USD or Riel but will often receive change in Riel. In the connivence stores in Siem Reap you'll find most known brands.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

You must have valid travel insurance to travel with Stray Asia.

HEALTH

Before travelling to Cambodia you should visit a travel doctor for quality medical advice (we want you to be healthy and enjoy your trip with us). There are many diseases present in tropical climates that are transmitted by mosquitoes. It is possible to get dengue fever and malaria (remote countryside) from mosquitoes so we recommend you carry some strong (>30%) insect repellent.
