New Zealand’s ‘Must Do’ Activities

We've put together Stray's Great New Zealand Bucket List...

New Zealand is is often referred to as the ‘Adventure Capital of the World’ where its compact geography and varying terrain allows travellers to enjoy every kind of unique adventure imaginable.

So what are the “must do’s” to add to your bucket list?

NZ Bucket List - Bungy Jump1. Bungy where it all began!

The first commercial bungy jump at the Kawarau Bridge near Queenstown is still operating today. If you’re going to bungy jump anywhere in the world, do it in the ‘home of bungy’!

2. Skydive over the world's best scenery

NZ Bucket List Skydive

Nothing quite compares to that ‘out of body’ experience of free falling from 15,000 ft. If you are bold enough to do it (and everyone should) there is no better place than in NZ where you can jump over national parks, glaciers, snow-capped mountains and deep blue lakes. Stray offers options in the Bay of IslandsTaupoAbel TasmanFox Glacier or Wanaka. Take your pick!

3. Meet the locals NZ Bucket List Wildlife

What NZ lacks in native land mammals (it only has bats which are very rare and most New Zealanders have never seen!), it makes up for with a diverse range of marine life and birds. Swim with wild dolphinswatch the whales, feed a wild stingray, visit a seal colony and see some of the world’s rarest and most interesting birds.

4. Do some of the world's greatest walks

Whether you’re strolling along the golden sand beaches of Abel Tasman National Park, discovering hidden waterfalls in Fiordland or hiking next to ‘Mt Doom’ on the epic Tongariro Alpine Crossing, the best (and cheapest) way to appreciate New Zealand’s beauty is to walk amongst it!

NZ Bucket List Great Walks and Glaciers

5. Walk on a glacier

Stray’s top-rated activity by our passengers is the helicopter ride to the top of Franz Josef Glacier where you can navigate your way through the maze of ice and learn about the dramatic environmental changes from a knowledgeable ice explorer guide.

NZ Bucket List - Waitomo - Glow Worms

6. Discover Glowworms

Waitomo has become famous for its sprawling underground limestone cave network which boasts some impressive stalactites and stalagmites. But this isn’t the main attraction - it’s the millions of twinkling glow worms that line the cave walls that make this such a drawcard. Add it to the list!

NZ Bucket List - StarGaze - Dark Sky Reserve

7. Stargaze in a dark sky reserve

There’s something special about viewing the night sky without the artificial lights of civilisation getting in the way and there’s no better place for stargazing than the Aoraki McKenzie Dark Sky Reserve on the South Island.
