Stewart Island has one of the largest populations of kiwi in New Zealand and Ulva Island, just a 7min water taxi ride from Stewart Island, is a native bird sanctuary.

If you're interested in birds and botany you'll find these guided walks fascinating.  You'll discover unique, rare and endangered birds and beautiful native trees and flowers. 

You have a good chance of spotting a kiwi on Ulva island, due to the unique environment free of predators, the kiwi here feed during the day as well as at night.
