Asia Updates

Changes valid from 1 October 2019 - 30 September 2020

New Itinerary

Based on customers' feedback, we've made some improvements to our itineraries. Here's a summary of the changes made in each country.

Thailand

  • Bangkok Welcome Meeting starts at 3pm (previously 6pm).

  • We'll travel directly from Bangkok to Chiang Mai on the overnight train.

  • No longer visiting Ayutthaya en-route to Chiang Mai.

Laos

  • We will spend two nights in amazing Kong Lor instead of one.

  • New destination: Savannakhet on the banks of the Mekong River offers good accommodation & restaurant options, plus a dinosaur museum! Savannakhet replaces Xe Champhone as an overnight stop in Southern Laos.

  • We'll visit Thakhek, but no longer stay overnight.

Cambodia
  • We will have two nights in the cute riverside town of Kampot instead of one. This allows travellers time to explore the Bokor National Park, or spend a day on Rabbit Island (Koh Tunsay).

  • We've removed Sihanoukville from our itinerary. Rapid development has meant Sihanoukville is no longer a destination that aligns with the Stray experience.

Vietnam

  • No route changes.

More Accommodation Options

Freestyle Tours will no longer have a compulsory single supplement!

Budget conscious and solo travellers now have the option to share a room with another traveller of the same sex.

Choose between:

Shared: Multi share, same sex accommodation in a mixture of twin- share, triple-share and 4-8 bed dorms.

Twin-Share: Twin-share rooms at all destinations*. Solo travellers will be paired with someone of the same sex. Couples can specify a preference for a double bed.

Single: Single private room at all destinations*.

Stray Asia Accommodation Options

*Single & Twin-Share not available at homestays.

Borneo Updates

From 1 March 2020, the Borneo Explorer tour will begin in Sandakan and finish in Kota Kinabalu, rather than operating in a loop from Kota Kinabalu.

We will visit all of the same destinations and include all the same activities, but we reduce the overall travel time by travelling in one direction, leaving more time to explore!

The tour will become 10 days (instead of 9) to allow for an orientation day in Sandakan.
