Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island? Totally underrated until you experience its awesomeness! Did you know that more than 50% of the island is pure National Park goodness? And guess what? Magnetic Island National Park is home to Australia's biggest koala sanctuary. Those little furballs can be tricky to spot, but here's your golden opportunity to catch them in the wild! Fancy-feeding rock wallabies? Or how about catching a stunning sunset at West Point Beach, with Australia as your backdrop? It's full of secluded beaches, history and hiking trails making it a must-do hidden gem on your Australian adventure tour

Now, here's where the fun kicks into high gear. Grab your pals and rent a mini 4WD for a day of epic island adventure. It's the absolute coolest way to get around, trust us! And speaking of cool, Radical Beach is just a hop, skip and a jump from your accommodation on Magnetic Island. It's hands down one of the island's raddest swimming spots. Get ready for a magnetic adventure like no other!

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

STRAY AUS Magnetic Island 4WD Cruise

Magnetic Island's Forts Walk

Join your Stray guide on a trek around the Forts Complex. Combining WW2 history with stunning scenery, this 1.5-hour walk will lead you to an incredible viewpoint where you can admire the East Coast horizon and surrounding islands. The Forts Complex was an important position for the defence of Townsville back 80 years ago and supported a major supply route to the troops in the Pacific. Keep one eye out for local koalas and the other on the amazing views over the Coral Sea, the surrounding islands and coastline on your walk as it's a fantastic way to get your bearings and start your visit.

Hire a 4WD and cruise around the island

A backpacker favourite! Hire a mini 'barbie car' and zoom around the island or round up a group of mates and drive in convoy.  The 4WD is a perfect way to get around this rugged and beautiful region and it allows you to access secluded beaches and explore Magnetic Island's hidden gems. If you have your 4WD for the whole day - make sure to head out to West Point for sunset.

Spot koalas in the wild

Look up! You're bound to see at least one wild koala nestled in a tree during your time here. They sleep for 22 hours a day though... so there's a high chance they'll be asleep. Check out the Eucalyptus forests along the trails and if you see wig or stone arrows on the ground that's just a local way of saying look up and keep your eyes peeled.

Swim at Horseshoe Bay

It's rare to find a safe space to swim in northern Queensland (thanks to all the deadly marine life), but Horseshoe Bay is equipped with stinger nets to prevent any unwanted attention. Hallelujah! Spend some time in Horseshoe Bay and get amongst some watersports like - kayaking, jet skiing and SUPs. There are restaurants, cafes and bars along this stretch of beach so its a perfect place to camp out and relax.
