13 March 2018 - Due to heavy rainfall in the central North Island on 7 March 2018, our Strademark overnight stop Blue Duck Station experienced numerous landslips along their access road and property.

Blue Duck Station is one of our most remote stops, and unfortunately the severity of the damage to the access road and farmland itself means that our Stray Journeys and hop-on, hop-off groups will not be able to travel there until 24 March 2018.

We have made the following alternative arrangements for all Stray groups due to travel on the North Island in the next couple of weeks:

Stray Journeys - tours departing Auckland on 13 & 20 March

The next two tour groups travelling the North Island will depart Rotorua and spend the next night in the popular lakeside town of Taupo. In lieu of the Blue Duck farm tour, the group will spend the afternoon sailing around Great Lake Taupo on the scenic Barbary cruise, one of Taupo's top-rated water activities, and finish the day with a delicious group dinner at the local Irish pub.

The next day, the group will travel to the Tongariro National Park and carry on with the rest of the tour as planned.

Stray Hop-on, Hop-off - all North Island buses until 24 March

All groups travelling the North Island will travel from Lake Aniwhenua and spend 2 nights in Taupo, the cool little township on the edge of Great Lake Taupo. This is a great North Island hub with plenty of fun optional activities on offer, like sailing, skydiving and bungy jumping. Stray will guarantee your 2 nights' accommodation at either Urban Retreat or Tiki Lodge.

After the 2 nights in Taupo, groups will continue on the regular itinerary to do the activities in Tongariro National Park and our next overnight stop in Raetihi.

Taupo's main pick-up location: Urban Retreat
Alternative Taupo pick-up Base Taupo  (to be collected from here you must have advised reservations before 4pm the day prior to travel)
Time: 6.30am when the Tongariro Crossing is going ahead |   9am if Tongariro Crossing is cancelled due to weather (Your driver will advise)

Be sure to check out our Taupo Destination Guide for more info about all the fun activities available there.

We will continue to provide updates about Blue Duck Station as they become available, but if you have any questions, please get in touch with the Reservations team by email or phone +64 (0) 9 526 2140.

In the wake of Cyclone Gita, our overnight accommodation at The Barn in Marahau has experienced some flood damage. As a result we can only accommodate limited numbers of Stray passengers at the property at any one time.

Passengers travelling on the following dates will now overnight in Motueka at the Top 10 Holiday Park which is a short 25 minute drive from Abel Tasman National Park. The Top 10 Park offers a pool, a spa and comfortable cabins so we are confident everyone will enjoy this accommodation.

Passengers travelling to Abel Tasman on these dates will stay in Motueka:

  • 28th Feb (WED)
  • 4th March (SUN)
  • 7th March (WED)
  • 11th March (SUN)
  • 18th March (SUN)

What you need to know:

  • Those staying in Motueka will still have access to all the activities on offer in the region.
  • Aquataxi can provide shuttle services to/from the Abel Tasman walking tracks. Either book with your Driver or at reception.
  • Departure times from Motueka will be at 9am (from within the Holiday Park)

For those who do stay at The Barn:

There will not be a 'pick-up' service available from the The Barn on the following dates. If you decide to hop-off at The Barn, you may need to stay extra nights until the next bus comes.  On these dates, the Stray pick-up for Abel Tasman will be from Motueka Top 10 Holiday Park.
