Hot Water Beach is the hottest spot in the Coromandel Peninsula and a popular attraction for people around the world!
The entire Coromandel region was shaped by the geological fault lines and remnants of the Coromandel Volcanic Zone. The hot springs at Hot Water Beach are the best evidence of the Coromandel's volcanic past. Geothermal activity just 2km beneath the surface is what naturally heats the water.
To create your own personal spa pool at Hot Water Beach, be prepared to dig a hole in the sand at a specific place on the beach and release the naturally heated mineral water. If you see other people with spades who appear to be digging for pirate treasure, you're in the right spot!
**Please note that the hot springs are only accessible at low tide.**
There's a bit of an art to it!
