The world-renowned glacier experience not to be missed!

Franz Josef Glacier Guides are proud to offer a range of world-class experiences designed to show you the very best of New Zealand's West Coast glaciers.

Thanks to their detailed knowledge of the glacier region, you'll come away with a whole new appreciation for Kā Roimata o Hine Hukatere (Franz Josef Glacier). These guides have a great deal of experience and are highly skilled in finding the safest and most spectacular route for you, whether that's up on the ice or across the valley floor. Each trip is tailored to the ability of your group as well as the conditions of the ice and valley on the day.

Popular Tours

With the combination of an exhilarating helicopter ride, jaw-dropping scenery and a three hour hike through the most spectacular glacier features, it's no wonder visitors often label their Glacier Heli Hike as the highlight of their visit to Aotearoa (New Zealand).

Your journey starts at our glacier base in Franz Josef Village where the friendly guiding team will check you in, get you kitted out with the essential gear and give you a pre-trip briefing.

Your pilot will then land you high up on the glacier itself and from here your guide will lead on an epic journey through the most impressive glacier features available including ice caves, crevasses tunnels and more.

For those looking for a challenge or a truly unique alpine experience there are Ice Climbing and Glacier Overnight tours available as well. All trips include complimentary access to the Franz Josef Glacier Hot Pools – the perfect way to unwind and reflect on your glacier adventure.

Spaces are limited on these trips so be sure to book early!
