Volunteering and Seasonal Jobs in NZ

Work and Travel in New Zealand

If you are in New Zealand for a while there are many options for you to either work as a volunteer or at one of the many seasonal job placements around New Zealand.
You can use your Stray NZ bus pass to get to these places, hop off the bus work for a while and then hop back on when you are ready.
In this section you will find useful links of organisations that offer a wide range of temporary work, ranging from volunteering in the native rainforest or historic building restoration to fruit picking.

VOLUNTEERING

WWOOF New Zealand
The WWOOF network provides many jobs on farms and organic properties. Food and accommodation is provided for you while you help on the farm.
Volunteering as a WWOOFer is a great opportunity to get involved in the daily life of locals and will help you better understand New Zealand’s culture and people.

On the Department of Conservation (DOC) website you can find information about how you can get involved in conservation.

It’s practical work, mostly outdoors, that gives you the opportunity to meet new people, to learn new skills and to contribute to conservation in New Zealand.

Virtual Tour

In July 2007 we booked on the stray bus from Auckland, on the Short Moe pass.
I have always worked in customer service related industries, and have never personally felt the need to write a letter of appreciation or of complaint before in my life.
We had numerous bus drivers on the route, But James who drives on the north Island most certainly stood out from the rest! He really made the whole group's trip with great knowledge of New Zealand, good sense of humour and an infectious personality. He is a great attribute to your company.
I have just got back home from travelling around the world, along the way I have recommended The Stray bus to many travellers stopping off in NZ.
The world is so big and there are so many countries to see and things to do, so it is very rare I would ever go back to the same country or to re-do an activity, But New Zealand and the stray bus are definitely and exception to this. I cant wait to do it all over again. Keep up the good work and all the best for 2008
