New Zealand Bus Tour and Activities

NZ LOCAL CULTURE

Just by cruising on the Stray bus and listening to your guide you’ll pick up loads of information about the New Zealand culture. When you’re off the bus you’ll get to meet local characters and iwi, and have the chance to immerse yourself in the culture through various activities.

Cultural Stay

We worked with the local Maori who purpose-built a marae for Stray passengers to uniquely have the chance to stay overnight on. You get to learn about local culture and traditions and get an interactive show where guys can learn the haka and girls can learn the poi (swinging balls on string).

East Cape Trip (Summer Only)

We work closely with locals (we provide the vehicles while they own and operate the trip) so you can get fully involved in the culture of this special place. There are many activity options such as bone carving, weaving, fishing, shark diving, a Maori bush medicine tour, a marae visit, or horse riding.

West Coast Cultural Day

We offer a day of unique local activities including stops along the way to see the Westport seal colony and to explore the awesome Pancake rocks and their mighty blowholes. Hop off at Barrytown for bone carving or pounamu carving, or take a hike down into the temperate rainforests of the Paparoa National Park along the Truman Track. At night enjoy a Stray 'Kiwi Grill' meal deal at a Greymouth Pub.

Virtual Tour

In July 2007 we booked on the stray bus from Auckland, on the Short Moe pass.
I have always worked in customer service related industries, and have never personally felt the need to write a letter of appreciation or of complaint before in my life.
We had numerous bus drivers on the route, But James who drives on the north Island most certainly stood out from the rest! He really made the whole group's trip with great knowledge of New Zealand, good sense of humour and an infectious personality. He is a great attribute to your company.
I have just got back home from travelling around the world, along the way I have recommended The Stray bus to many travellers stopping off in NZ.
The world is so big and there are so many countries to see and things to do, so it is very rare I would ever go back to the same country or to re-do an activity, But New Zealand and the stray bus are definitely and exception to this. I cant wait to do it all over again. Keep up the good work and all the best for 2008
