New Zealand Bus Travel for Backpackers

GUARANTEED NEW ZEALAND ACCOMMODATION

We guarantee accommodation in the night stop-overs when you're travelling on the bus (this is an important key feature - people rarely appreciate how busy it can get in New Zealand and how time consuming the search for a good hostel is). You simply tell your guide your preference (twins, doubles, dorms ...) - we book it - you pay as you go.
Please note: in peak season twins and double rooms may have limited availability.

We stay in a variety of hostels, wilderness lodges and cabins in amazing off the beaten track locations as well as in a West Coast pub and on a marae (Maori meeting house)!  You'll be right next to the action at all times in these cool different places, instead of boring mainstream hostels in the middle of towns at every stop!

Flexible

To keep the pass flexible you are also free to select your own accommodation in any location we visit, merely inform the guide that you wish to explore other options and they will make arrangements to meet you for any activities you wish to partake in.

Good Prices

All accommodation is at backpacker hostel rates (about $25-30 per night for a dorm bed and $60-80 for a double or twin room).

Self Catering

The majority of our accommodation options allow for self-catering with kitchen facilities (we do supermarket stops to make it easier) – sometimes we offer group meals or other cheap meal options (i.e. at our cultural stop your meals are included), often with local specialties (there is always a vegetarian option).

Virtual Tour

I did the Short Moe pass in November/07 and it was a wicked trip. Would like to thank my driver Ricky for doing a great job - sweet as man.
Would highly recommend Stray, especially for solo travellers. Lots of variety of ages and nationalities on the bus which was great. Just wish I has more time to spend but i am sure to be back.
Cheers, Stray.
