Stray Thoughts in Space… #239

Kia Ora!

Neil’s Stuff:
Last Thursday, Stray won the innovation award at the ‘Golden Backpack Awards’ (Australasian backpacking industry awards). We won for recognizing the current environmental and economic pressures in the market and tuning our product accordingly.  Amongst other things, we added 10 brand new mini-coaches to our fleet, which minimised our environmental impact, reduced our fuel consumption, and cemented us as the leading smaller group, further off the beaten track, travel option in New Zealand.  Fantastic hey.  Big party in Sydney – it was great to catch up with everyone and great to see the level of industry organization and co-ordination over there.
We also launched Adventure Tours NZ in Sydney on Wednesday night – I must say that it was one of the best launches that I have been part of, with over 100 key agents.  Thanks heaps to all of you for coming and thanks to Tim and Jono for organising it, with a special mention to Leon from BPW for the fierce haka!
Finally, a big happy birthday and congratulations to AJ Hackett Bungy for their 20th birthday!  Sorry I couldn’t make it to the party Henry – sounds like it was huge!
Lots of cheers,
Neil

Craig’s Stray Sales Stuff:
Kia ora,
How’s everyone doing?
I’d first like to start off by sending a huge congrats to my fellow sales rep Liz who just smashed the Auckland Harbor Swim on Sunday. She finished 312 out of a pack of 1,400 in under an hour! Not bad for your first swim Luke. It was even better when she was telling me this morning they had orcas (killer whales!) swimming around the Hauraki on Saturday! Well done! (I wonder what happened to those 200 who didn’t finish?)

Now on to some important things. With summer on its way it’s a great time to book a Stray pass. If you’re travelling before the end of December get FREE Stray Dollars, which saves you up to $100 off any adventure activity around the country (like the Dolphin and Whale Safari in Auckland Harbour), AND if you book before the end of November you can now get further off the beaten track for less, with $200 off our top five passes (That would be the Stray Everywhere, Maximus, Max, Moe, and Bret)!!! Not too shabby eh!
Well that’s it for me as I’m back out there pounding the pavement.

Sell/buy Stray, hire Spaceships… and crack a Speight’s beer while you’re at it!

Craig

Stuff from the Road (by Apples the driver!):
Ever seen a haggis dancing in tartan gumboots in time to 1970's bagpipe tunes Dunedin? A hobbit lighting crackers in a supermarket trolley, Turangi?
It has all been going on round the Stray circuit this week.
Scenes on a dusty Catlin road, Election day... 2 yellow eyed penguins eyeing up Chuckles the orange bus in a stand off.
"Who's got right of way?"  They seemed to be saying, while the passengers all swayed from the left, oohing and aahing at the model penguins, who just wanted to cross the road. National supporters had painted their ewes blue, Gollum got proposed to and went very red. Special votes were cast in Invercargill, whitebait stands coming down faster than the Labour Government cascade.

AJ Hackett himself sat and chatted to Lindi our Stray passenger for a good twenty minutes at the K Bridge Bungy 20th anniversary celebrations yesterday, just minutes after completing his Tandem celebratory jump with Henry Van Ashe. Word is the new Nevis Arc is going to be open to punters a week today. How sh%t scaringly good that will be, getting it up the Arc?

Roll on summer (and don't forget to wave at the bus driver)!

Love Apples xxx

PS NZ has just been voted the overall winner at the Responsible Tourism Awards in London. Nice one Kiwis.

Quote of the week: ‘Sorry Daniel, I’ll be late into work today as I've got jetlag from my trip to Christchurch’
JP – who works in Spaceships' Auckland office!!

Catch ya further off the beaten track,
