Hot Stuff

Everyone likes a bit of hot stuff and Stray gets you lots of it! New Zealand’s unique landscape lends itself to geysers, hot pools and hundreds of volcanoes for you to check up and feel the heat!

Auckland
Auckland has over 50 volcanoes and we’ll show you a few of them on our Auckland day trip and as you leave south from Auckland including the famous Mt Eden. You can take a ferry trip to Rangitoto which is Auckland’s youngest volcano and climb to the summit checking out the lava caves and native bush on the way.

Hot Water Beach
This place is fantastic – it’s tide dependent but when it is low tide we head out there (we stay just round the corner at Hahei), grab some spades and maybe a bottle of vino and then dig our own spa pool on the beach. The geothermal activity heats the water so you can lie in your hot pool and relax right on the beach!

Raglan
Raglan is a world famous surf area and we recommend everyone have a go at learning to surf while they’re there. The best thing after a few hours carving up the waves is relaxing in the Karioi Lodge bush sauna.

Rotorua
This place is the bubbling centre of geothermal activity of New Zealand. You can check out the various mud pools and geysers, or head to the Polynesian Spa and relax in a hot tub with perhaps a natural mud face pack!

Tongariro National Park
After a long day of either walking the Tongariro Crossing or skiing head back to our hostel and chill out in their sauna or spa (believe us you’ll need it!)

Franz Josef
The hostel we stay at in Franz Josef has one of New Zealand’s largest (and most popular) spa pools – perfect after a big hike up on the glacier.
