Stray New Zealand has developed and fine-tuned our ‘Hop-On / Hop-Off’ bus service for backpackers (as opposed to a common bus tour) since 1989. Our bus based travel network accesses amazing local attractions – things that you would want – on and off the beaten track. All of our trips are guided by the sort of people who can help you find what you are looking for. They are on hand to provide sightseeing and commentary on things of interest, and generally help you find amazing things on and off the beaten track. You are free to use them as much or as little as you like

We get further off the beaten track to excellent places that you would otherwise have huge difficulty accessing and we always make sure that there is time to see and experience things along the way - we travel at the right pace so you don't have to break your journey just to get a good look around

We only operate backpacker travel networks - we don't own hostels or activities so we aren't biased by anything other than what is best for you. Our trips have been tested on animals - and other travellers (some who will be just like you) - we survey every customer and constantly tune our trips to make sure that they are as good as they possibly can be.

Have huge experience in running quality, award winning travel networks. They are experienced travellers themselves with 15 years in the game and are credited with being the inventors of ‘Backpacker Travel Networks’

Our guides

We actively recruit motivated, interesting, well-travelled young crew. We then give them what we think is the best training in the industry. We train them comprehensively over the routes to ensure that as well as providing informative guided walks they can be your local on hand to help you find everything from yellow eyed penguin on the Caitlin coast to a ski run in the Holy Cow Bar. Our guides are great – you don’t just have to take our work for it – listen to our customers, they are our highest rating feature
